2nd Annual Base of the Pyramid Narrative Competition - 2008 (Now accepting submissions!)
This short-essay competition seeks to highlight the challenges of implementing business in underserved markets and identify innovative business initiatives or solutions to those challenges. As such, the competition itself as well as the winning essays, may be of interest to Lighting Africa members who are developing new business models in sub-Saharan Africa. Call for Submission for the 2008 Legatum Pioneers of Prosperity Africa Award
OTF Group in collaboration with Legatum, has launched "Pioneers of Prosperity" Awards last year in East Africa. The Awards' objective is to recognize, reward and celebrate entrepreneurship on the continent and promote medium sized businesses as the engine of Africa's economic growth.

Carbon Finance Training Workshop, March 26-27 2008
March 26-27 2007, The World Bank Group held the "Lighting Africa - Carbon Finance Training workshop: Exploring Carbon Market Opportunities," in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. This two-day training workshop addressed opportunities for energy efficiency improvements in the lighting sector and their synergies with the carbon market, available through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Workshop presentations are now available on the Lighting Africa website!

Development Marketplace Winners
16 winners were selected from among 52 competitors and their projects were judged using five criteria: innovation, measurability of outcomes, organizational and financial sustainability, growth potential, and realism. The winners will use the funds to implement their projects in several African countries, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
